Hello, I am Laura, a professional counsellor and therapist based in Salisbury, experienced in working with clients 'in the room', and online. I have over twenty years’ experience of working in private, public, and charitable organisations that support vulnerable young people and adults with diverse and complex needs. The confidential therapy I provide is informed by Transactional Analysis, a modality proven effective with working with a wide range of issues that provides easy to understand ways to explore and identify a plan for change. I also incorporate other therapeutic models such as Gestalt, Somatic Experiencing, Creative Therapy and Brainspotting into my practice to address your individual specific needs.
I work with a full range of emotional issues, relational an complex trauma and unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. I also work with the spectrum of gender and sexual expressions of the LGBTQIA+ community and recognise the importance of culture, race, and identity in how we meet the world. As an inclusive therapist I actively provide understanding and a place to be seen, heard and understood.
My specialism is in developing my understanding and expertise in working with clients who have neurodiverse traits and needs. I adopt neurodiverse affirming methods of relating and being into my practise and recognise that we all learn, relate, and experience the world in a myriad of ways. I am myself neurodiverse as are my mentors and advisors. I actively research and study in areas that would best suit the needs of you, the client and share this learning as psychoeducation is an important facet in the way I work.
I offer pre and post diagnsosis support, sensory and emotional manangement, and autistic burnout prevention/recovery strategies. Amongst many other things. Most importantly, I help you to get in touch with the things that you may have done as a child that calmed or stimulated your and encourage what you love as an adult. Because ultimately, you know you best.
I offer regular weekly sessions, providing space for what is needed. I see my role as a witness to your individual journey, showing you ways to develop understanding, empathy and self-compassion to the different aspects of yourself. I encourage and promote the importance of self-care, self-reflection, self-compassion and self-soothing as necessary components for therapeutic change.
My aim is to encourage curiosity of self.
